Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, October 26, and for most iPhone owners it is the first real feature update since iOS 27 shipped in September. Every iPhone goes straight from [27.0.1](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/apple-releases-ios-27-0-1-with-iphone-18-pro-face-id-and-camera-fixes/) to 27.2, and iPhone Duo, which launched on its own iOS 27.1, gets it the same day with a few extras of its own.

The update brings Siri AI to five more languages, profiles to the Apple TV app, and the return of Messages Suggestions, the one tap buttons Apple pulled from iOS 27.0 at the last minute. Apple Music also gets the black and white redesign that drew so much criticism during the beta. One thing you will not find is the redesigned Health app Apple tested in the early betas. Apple says that is coming in a later update.

iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2 and HomePod Software 27.2 arrived the same day. Below is everything new on each platform, how to turn on the features that need it, and how to update.

## iOS 27.2 (Build 24B119)

### Siri AI Now Speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish

Siri AI, Apple's rebuilt assistant, picks up French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in iOS 27.2, the languages Apple had promised for October. The language you pick for Siri decides which version you get, so switching your Siri language to Spanish, for example, gives you Siri AI in Spanish.

To change it, open Settings, tap Siri, and choose your language. If you have not tried Siri AI yet, the same screen has the Try Siri AI (Beta) option, which adds you to the waitlist.

Siri AI still needs an iPhone 15 Pro, any iPhone 16 or later, or iPhone Air. It also remains unavailable on iPhone in the EU and mainland China, so the new French support covers places like Canada but not France. If you would rather keep the old assistant, our guide on [switching back to Siri Classic](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/siri-classic-ios-27/) still applies.

### Siri AI Remembers Earlier Conversations

Siri AI can now recall your past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before. Apple's example is the restaurants Siri recommended last week.

### Siri AI Draws on More of Your Information

Answers can now pull from more places on your iPhone: photos attached in Messages, the attendees on Calendar events, your voicemails, and better results from your Safari history and Reading List.

### Copy Just Part of a Siri Answer

Text selection in Siri responses is more precise, so you can select and copy only the part of an answer you need.

### Messages Suggestions Are Back

Messages Suggestions was in the iOS 27 betas and disappeared shortly before launch, with Apple saying only that it would return in a future update. It is back in iOS 27.2\. When a conversation mentions something you can act on, small buttons appear under the message: add an event to Calendar, turn a request into a reminder or a note, open a place in Maps, or track a flight or a package. If someone asks for photos, Messages can also help you find matching shots in your library.

You can now decide which suggestions show up. Go to Settings, then Apps, then Messages, then Suggested Actions, and turn individual types on or off: Add to Calendar, Add to Reminders, Add to Notes, Show in Maps, and Flights and Packages. If the buttons felt noisy during the iOS 27 beta, this is the fix. They also appear less often than they did then.

### iPhone Duo Gets Apple Pencil Support and Edge Light

iPhone Duo gets iOS 27.2 on the same day as every other iPhone, and Apple's release notes for the Duo add two features just for the foldable. Apple Pencil now works on iPhone Duo, which Apple had promised was coming after launch. And a new Edge Light feature lights up your face during video calls, which helps when you're on FaceTime in a dim room. Apple's notes don't say which Apple Pencil models the Duo supports, so check before you buy one for it.

The Duo notes also say Siri AI can now hold on to useful context from your earlier conversations with it and draw on a wider range of personal context, and they list Messages Suggestions, covered above, as part of the update.

### Profiles Come to the Apple TV App

The Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad now supports profiles, so everyone in the house can have their own instead of sharing one account's viewing. Create them from the account settings in the TV app. Each profile gets a name and a content rating, and you can mark one as a child profile. Child profiles default to PG, and Customize lets you set specific ratings for movies and TV.

The same settings screen has a sign language interpretation toggle, which plays interpreted versions of shows and movies where they are available.

### Apple Music's New Black and White Look

Apple Music drops its red branding. The app icon is now white with a black logo (black with a white logo in Dark Mode), the logo uses bolder type with a lowercase "m", the selected tab in the tab bar is blue instead of red, and widgets use a plain black background. There is nothing to turn on, and the same look comes to iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro.

The reaction during the beta was mostly negative, and Apple kept the design anyway. Your library, playlists and settings are unchanged.

### Podcasts Separates New Episodes From the Ones You Started

The Podcasts app renames Up Next to New Episodes and adds a Continue Playing row right below it. Episodes you have already started no longer get mixed in with new releases, which makes it easier to see what actually dropped since you last opened the app.

### Anniversary Reminders When You Call

Call Context, the iOS 27 feature that surfaces details like a flight confirmation when you place a call, now reminds you when you are calling someone on their anniversary. It does not need Apple Intelligence. It only needs the date on their contact card.

To add it, open the person in Contacts, tap Edit, tap Add Date, and choose Anniversary. You can also ask Siri to add the anniversary for you.

### Dual Capture Works in Group FaceTime

Dual Capture, which records from the front and rear cameras at the same time, now works in Group FaceTime calls, so everyone on the call can see you and what your rear camera is pointed at.

### Add an Interpreter or Captioner to a FaceTime Call

FaceTime now lets you add a third party sign language interpreter or a live captioner to a call.

### Pick the Apps Siri Can't See

Settings, Siri, App Access is now called Excluded Apps, and it has a new Add Apps button so you can exclude several apps at once instead of tapping through them one by one. Excluded apps stay out of Siri, Search and suggestions.

### HomeView Setup Requires iOS 27.2

Apple's new HomeView, which ships November 13, needs an iPhone or iPad on iOS 27.2 or later to set up. If you have one on order, updating now saves you a step on delivery day.

### A Smaller Readiness Widget for Fitness

The small Readiness widget in Fitness has a new semicircular gauge showing your score and a short label like "Go For It." Readiness needs an Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4\. To add it, touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose Fitness. Our [Readiness explainer](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/apple-watch-readiness-score-explained/) covers what the score means.

### A New App Tracking Prompt in Parts of Europe

App Tracking Transparency gets an expanded prompt in the EU, and apps can ask you again once a year. Apple's notes say the expanded prompt is required in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. Outside those countries, nothing changes.

### AirPods Pro Hearing Aid and Hearing Test Reach Canada

Apple's Hearing Aid and Hearing Test features for AirPods Pro arrive in five Canadian provinces with iOS 27.2: Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan. Apple says they work on AirPods Pro 2 and later with the latest firmware, paired with an iPhone or iPad running iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2 or later. The rest of Canada doesn't have them yet.

Hearing Test takes about five minutes and gives you a hearing loss classification with recommended next steps. If you have perceived mild to moderate hearing loss, Hearing Aid amplifies the sound around you at no extra cost. Both are meant for adults. To start, connect your AirPods Pro, open Settings, tap your AirPods near the top, and choose Take a Hearing Test.

### Shared Albums Get Caption Editing and Expiry Reminders

Shared Albums in Photos now lets you edit captions and comments, and it warns you before you add a photo that's already in the album. It can also show a reminder before an album expires, so everyone in it has time to save the photos and videos they want to keep.

### SynthID Watermarks in Photos and Image Playground

Photos and Image Playground now support SynthID watermarking, which helps identify whether an image was generated or modified with generative tools.

### The Games App Explains Its Friend Suggestions

The Friends tab in the Games app now tells you why someone is being suggested as a friend, and a friend's player page shows the games they've played recently.

### Smaller Changes

- The battery icon in Settings, Battery now matches the redesigned iOS 27 status bar, and the battery symbols in Shortcuts were updated too.
- Clock shows a.m. and p.m. in smaller type next to alarm times.
- In Books, tapping a page shows a new Liquid Glass menu and a reading progress bar along the bottom.
- In Maps, the Options button during navigation is now Time and Options.
- Display Zoom previews in Settings now show Liquid Glass.

### What's Not Here: The Health App Redesign

The early iOS 27.2 betas included a redesigned Health app with Insights, Longevity and Browse tabs, a Health Age estimate and lab test scheduling. Apple removed it in beta 4 and replaced it with a "Coming Later This Year" notice, so iOS 27.2 keeps the current Health app. Apple says the redesign arrives later this year. We covered [what Apple tested](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/inside-apples-redesigned-health-app-everything-we-found-in-the-ios-27-2-beta/) if you want a preview.

## iPadOS 27.2 (Build 24B119)

iPadOS 27.2 gets everything above that applies to iPad, including the new Siri AI languages, Apple TV profiles, Messages Suggestions and the Apple Music and Podcasts changes. Siri AI on the [new iPad mini](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/new-ipad-mini-oled-a20-pro/) Apple announced on October 26 requires it too. The new iPad mini ships with its own version of iPadOS 27.2, build 24B8120\. iPadOS 27.2 also adds one iPad only feature.

### Ask Siri About Selected Text

Borrowed from the Mac, this puts Siri next to whatever you select. With a trackpad connected, select some text and a small Siri icon appears at the top left of the selection. Hover over it and it expands into an Ask Siri box, so you can ask about or rewrite that text without opening Siri separately. Without a trackpad, use the Siri option in the edit menu that appears when you select text.

## macOS Golden Gate 27.2 (Build 26B123)

The Mac picks up Siri AI in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, plus the black and white Apple Music look and the Podcasts changes. The on screen brightness and volume indicator is now a segmented bar that appears under its menu bar icon, and holding down on an app in the Dock plays a new grow animation.

If you have a HomePod, there's one more Mac change that comes with HomePod Software 27.2: you can set a HomePod or a stereo pair as your Mac's default speaker, so you don't have to pick it from AirPlay every time. It needs a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later.

## watchOS 27.2 (Build 24S118)

### Siri AI Learns Five More Languages

Siri AI on Apple Watch gets the same five new languages as the iPhone: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. In watchOS 27.0 it only worked in US English. The Music app on the watch also switches to the new black and white icon. Install iOS 27.2 on your iPhone first, then update the watch from the Watch app under General, then Software Update.

### The App Switcher Returns

watchOS 27.0 removed the App Switcher, and watchOS 27.2 brings it back with a new gesture. Inside any app, press and hold the bottom edge of the screen. Turn the Digital Crown or swipe to move between recent apps, and swipe left on one and tap the X to close it.

## tvOS 27.2 (Build 24K122)

### New Profile Characters

Apple TV profiles pick up new characters from The Snoopy Show, Frog & Toad and Stillwater, and the same profiles now show up in the TV app on iPhone and iPad.

### A Shuffle Screen Saver

A new Shuffle option rotates through Aerials, Memories and Slideshows, Portraits and the Snoopy screen savers. New controls also let you choose which photos from your library appear in Portraits and in Memories and Slideshows, so the TV stops surfacing pictures you'd rather not see on the big screen.

### Sign Language Interpretation

Select movies and shows in the Apple TV app can now play with American Sign Language or British Sign Language interpretation. Turn it on in Settings or from the player controls while something is playing.

The TV app's Music icon gets the black and white redesign too. Apple says Siri AI is coming to Apple TV 4K (2nd generation and later), and HomePod surround sound needs the new Apple TV 4K that arrives November 13.

## HomePod Software 27.2 (Build 24K122)

HomePod gets its own update with four additions. It installs automatically, or you can update from the Home app on your iPhone.

### Sound Glow

The top of the HomePod becomes a light display that reacts to the bass and treble of whatever is playing, with colors pulled from the song's album art. Ambient sounds like rain get their own animations. It works on HomePod (2nd generation) and HomePod mini now, with HomePod mini 2 support coming later in the week.

### Lock Controls

A new setting turns off the touch controls on top of the HomePod, so curious kids or a stray elbow can't change the volume or skip a song. With it on, you control the speaker from your devices and with your voice.

### Surround Sound With the New Apple TV 4K

Four HomePods can work as two front and two rear speakers with the new Apple TV 4K (4th generation), which ships November 13\. It works with HomePod (2nd generation) and HomePod mini 2, and you can mix sizes as long as each front and rear pair matches. The Apple TV figures out where each speaker sits and calibrates timing and levels for the room on its own. Until the new Apple TV arrives, there's nothing to set up.

## visionOS 27.2 (Build 24N120)

Apple Vision Pro gets the same five new Siri AI languages and the new Apple Music icon.

## How to Update to iOS 27.2

Go to Settings, then General, then Software Update, and tap Update Now. Back up first, keep your iPhone charged or plugged in, and expect the install to take a while on Wi-Fi. If your iPhone feels warm or the battery drains faster for a day or two afterward, that is usually the phone finishing background indexing, which our [battery drain guide](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/ios-27-battery-drain/) explains. Our free [iOS update checklist](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/ios-update-checklist/) walks through the prep in a few minutes.

iPhone Duo owners update the same way, and get the Duo extras covered above. For every version and build Apple has shipped, see [Latest Apple Software](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/latest-apple-software/), and if something breaks after you update, check our [iOS 27 problems tracker](https://www.techbetweenthelines.com/ios-27-problems-and-fixes/) or report it there.

Which change will you actually use first, Siri AI in a new language or Messages Suggestions finally turned on? Tell us in the comments.
